First sketch - Mr. Goodfellow

School and Library Visits  2013
Readings: Depending on the targeted age group, both writing and illustrating will be covered, starting with first draft manuscripts and rough sketches, leading all the way to final artwork and the finished book. For younger audiences, this would include a reading of one or two picture books. For an older audience, Young Adult novels are discussed, including the processes of writing, editing and publication. A question and answer period is always included.
Special Equipment: An easel, if possible, or large table to display sketches, artwork and books.
Book Sales: Copies of books can be brought for sales and personal autographing - with advance notice.
Workshops: Great for an art class, this would follow a somewhat similar path to the readings, but with an interactive component. If requested, a sketching/planning workshop can be put together where students can create their own characters from template copies that are brought along. There will be tips and discussions on how to 'flesh-out' characters, giving them personaiity in both words and pictures.
Reading and Workshop Locations: Schools and Libraries
Grades: ranging from grade 3 to 12
Audience Size: 5 to 75 ( maximum 35 for workshops)
Fees: In accordance with Canada Council guidelines: $250 per one hour session/ $400 for 2 sessions
Geographic area covered: Greater Toronto Area, Halton and Peel regions (sometimes further - please contact)

Recent Events:

September/October 2012:  Following a month-long exhibit in September 2012 at The Montreal Museum of Fine Art - Museé des beaux-arts de Montréal -  80 (by invitation) original works from Canadian children's book illustrators were auctioned at a gala event on October 16th to benefit The Canadian Children's Book Centre. An original watercolour illustration from "The Painted Chest" was included in this exhibition/auction.

New work:

Voyageurs -safe passage. Acrylic on canvas

Currently working on an illustrated historical fiction book "Philippe and The Magic Cup" about the journey of a 15 year old novice North West Company voyageur. The story is based on the actual wooden voyageur's cup seen below, which once belonged to French Canadian Brigadier-General Dollard Ménard and was acquired at an estate auction a few years ago.
