JUDITH ChRISTINE MILLs

Born in Yorkshire, England and emigrating to Canada as a child, Judith Christine Mills is a sculptor, painter, children's book author & illustrator, medallist, artist educator, and content creator. Working from her beachside studio on the shores of southern Georgian Bay, she weaves her love of animals, history and the natural world into her art and stories. Mills is the author (& illustrator) of a number of books for children and Young Adults, including THE GOODFELLOW CHRONICLES (a middle grade fantasy series), THE PAINTED CHEST (a fable about the transformative power of art and music), THE STONEHOOK SCHOONER, THE STRANGE VOYAGE OF THE RACONTEUR, PHILIPPE & THE MAGIC CUP - A Voyageur's Tale, CAREW, THE OMEN LORD, NIGHT OWLS, and ROWDY & ED's CALIFORNIA ROAD TRIP. Many of these books focus on how our relationships with animals and nature can teach, uplift, and heal us. Some of these works have been translated into Danish, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Russian. Memberships include CANSCAIP (The Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers), The Writer's Union of Canada, The Medallic Art Society of Canada, and The International Art Medal Federation. On the Instagram site 'Creating With Kipling', Mills invites us to meet rescue kitty "Kipling." Emerging from the local backwoods as a frightened and malnourished youngster and straight into the arms of his new family, Kipling is now living his best life as a resident 'forest lore ambassador', beloved studio companion, art critic and muse, and occasional beach bum. Follow Kipling as he encourages us to celebrate animals in art and literature, to explore the unique joy of creating, and to discover how nature can provide endless inspiration. Kipling's unusual journey from loss to love and heartbreak to healing has been captured in Mills' new book "THE BLACK CAT IN THE PICTURE - The Story of Kipling". 'Creating with Kipling' will focus on extraordinary creators throughout history (artists, writers, composers, inventors) who sought inspiration from the wildness that surrounded them, and companionship from the animals they loved and lived with. Mills' art can be found in many private and corporate collections including those of Anne Murray, The Toronto Board of Education, The Hospital for Sick Children, The Canada Council for The Arts, and The City of Toronto Art Collection. Mills has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Toronto, Halifax, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, The Yukon, Chicago, Baltimore and Kennebunkport, Maine. Her illustrations and medallic art have been exhibited at The National Gallery in Ottawa, The Musee des beaux-arts in Montreal, The Fort York National Monument in Toronto, The Sculptor's Society of Canada, The Algonquin Art Centre and The International Medal Congress held in Ottawa (2018) Tokyo (2020/21) Florence (2023) and Munich (2025). Mills is also a certified Artist Educator (Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto) through their 'Learning Through The Arts' program.
